Their destination was unknown, but the gunmen had earlier demanded that a plane be made ready at Orly airport. A THIRD robber and a bank teller were killed in a shootout with police yesterday afternoon at the outset of the siege. The two gunmen freed two male hostages when they left the bank and drove away in an Alfa Romeo sedan loaned to police by a local resident after they, turned down a Renault car offered them by authorities. Onlookers crowded behind police lines several hundred yards from the bank and shouted "Hang them!" as the bandits drove off.

SHORTLY BEFORE the gunmen left, police had delivered a sack apparently containing the ransom money to the bank door. The gunmen also demanded a car, a sawed-off shotgun, and a plane. At one point they threatened to shoot one of thier hostages every 30 minutes if their demands weren't met. Don't Miss A Single Issue of the Tennessean. Call 254-5661 tor ALL subscriber services.

116101 OI66DS Lung Cancer Mars Holiday HONOLULU (UPI) -Heidi Biggs, who came to Hawaii with visions of swimming in the surf, slept quietly under heavy sedation in her room overlooking Waiki-ki Beach yesterday, with the deadly cancer making inroads into her lung. A spokesman for the Hawaiian Regent hotel said despite the child's inability to enjoy all the activities that were planned for her "dream vacation," Heidi did not complain. HER MOTHER, Lucille Hillman, and stepfather Randy Hillman, maintained a 24-hour vigil by the bedside of the little girl from Belleville, 111. The Hillmans have given up hope that Heidi can enjoy any more outside activities during the final days of the vacation, although she had yearned to go horseback rid ing again and take a tour of the nearby islands. Heidi, who weighs only 54 pounds and has been unable to eat for days, was carried to a lounge in the hotel Wed-neday night to listen to some Hawaiian music.

But the next morning Mrs. Hillman said Heidi was not any better. "HEIDI'S STILL managing to breathe on her own," she said, "as long as God wills it." Heidi, trying to make the most of her brief periods awake, managed to speak on the phone to a hotel employee she has become fond of during her stay. "I feel a little better," Heidi said weakly into the phone. She expressed the hope that she rwould be able to leave her room before the vacation ends tomorrow.
