ThwUyJAHUAT 7. tt3 THI lINHtlStAH 5B Ashland City, TN Victim angered slaying suspect witness Accused his son of desiring little girls By ROCHELLE CARTER Staff Writer SPRINGFIELD Danny McAl-pine killed Sandie Horton after she accused his son of looking at two little girls in a suggestive way, testimony in McAlpine's murder trial revealed yesterday. McAlpine, 47, told Rita Scott he had slashed Horton's throat and "cut her stomach out," said Scott, 27, in testimony during McAlpine's first-degree murder trial. Hours before, son Scott McAlpine, 25, had said "I ought to kill that bitch" after learning that Horton had accused him of watching Rita Scott's freshly bathed daughters, ages 3 and 5, and "licking his lips," Scott said of the events on June 21, 1991, the day Horton was killed. Scott's testimony supported Danny McAlpine's tape-recorded confession, played for the jury Tuesday, in which he called Horton a "leech" and said he killed her because of the accusation.

"I have no hate for Hortonl never did," Danny McAlpine, of Ridge-top, told sheriffs officials days after the slaying. "But when she started mentioning that Scott was looking at Rita Scott's kids with derogatory things I said 'Screw it' and I took her alongside the road and stabbed According to the confession and Scott's testimony, the defendant was alone in his car with Horton when he told her to get out, stabbed her and drove away. However, Scott McAlpine, convicted last May of Involuntary manslaughter in connection with Horton's death, testified that he and his father were taking Horton to a friend's house when she got out of the car along the way. The younger McAlpine said he did not know who killed Horton because had passed out from drinking too much. Horton, a Goodlettsville mother of two small boys, was found dead about 8 a.m.

June 22, 1991, in Greenbrier alongside Sycamore Road. She had been stabbed 40 times. Foreclosure will force housing residents out By BONNAM.de la CRUZ Staff Writer SMYRNA About 500 residents of the Wherry Housing Cooperative will have to leave their homes by March 1 after a U.S. Bankruptcy judge gave Rutherford County the go-ahead to foreclose. "The upshot of the hearing Tuesday is that Rutherford County will proceed to foreclose on the cooperative," said Joe Prochaska, a Nashville attorney who represented Wherry Housing.

U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Keith Lundin presided over the hearing. Meanwhile, the 138 families who have made their homes at the former Air Force base near the Smyrna Airport are scrambling to find housing, said Vincent Heady, manager of the housing cooperative that was formed in 1984. "We've been trying to call real estate agents to find housing. This Is hard on me," Heady said.

The cooperative was begun to provide affordable housing for low-to moderate-income families. Average monthly rent for the two-, three-and four-bedroom duplexes and homes is $250, Heady said. Heady said he, the cooperative secretary and two maintenance men will be out of jobs tomorrow. "Rutherford County has a first mortgage on the cooperative. The cooperative was, is and continues to be unable to make any payments to Ethel Ann Casey remembered MCCLAIN, Mr.

WOODBINE FUNERAL HOME, Directors, 832-1948 the county," Prochaska said. The cooperative has only paid $22,000 in 18 months on a $1.1 million debt, he said. "The cooperative has been placed by high maintenance cost, high water bills and by vandalism and crime," Prochaska said. The court in December, at the request of residents, appointed an examiner to review the cooperative's operations. As part of the settlement, Rutherford County agreed to pay the cooperative's water bills for this month and next month, giving residents time to look for new homes, Prochaska said.

Rutherford County commissioners are expected to have a special meeting later for a briefing on the foreclosure, County Executive John Mankin said last night He said he would not speculate on what the county will do with the property. To add to the cooperative's problems, Prochaska said, about $40,000 in rent payments is overdue. The cooperative's problems began in 1991 when it fell about four months behind in mortgage payments. The county began foreclosure proceedings until the cooperative filed a bankruptcy petition to stop the foreclosure. for Murray Chair Co.
