CUTTING OF ALFALFA TO BE DEMONSTRATED (Spcolnl to Tho Tennessean.) COLUMBIA, Auc. 5. Ar criminal court to die In the electric chair October 14. An effort is being made by Stamp's attorneys to obtain a new trial and whether tho death sentence will be carried out rests solely with the court of appeals. The sentence passed by Judge Harry Hobinson today concluded ono of the most sensational and most unique murder trials In the annals of tin criminal court here.

Stamp was accused of having driven his automobile alongside another tm chine occupied by Russell and his family on the night of Juno 1. Drawing a revolver he is said to have emptied It at the occupnnts of the other car. Russell was instantly killed, ont bullett wounded his wife nnd another barely missed Russell's 6-yea'r-old daughter. Stamp, after being sought everywhere by police, surrendered himself three days ufter the murder, protesting his Innocence. IJecause of the fact thot justice has repeatedly beon defeated by long continuances.

Judge Robinson refused Stamp's attorneys continuance. The trhil reverted into lengthy legnl battlo. Ar-torueys refused to take part In the trial. As consequence the defendant was convicted of murder after a speedy hearing. A prompt appcsil was made for a retrial.
