March 19. 0. B. HALL. THE TRIUMPH OF MECHANISM.

WATCHES. These Watches are produced by the same system that has made American Fire-Arms the best in the world. It substitutes the rapidity and precision of machinery for the slow and unreliable results of handicraft. The factory consists of a series of machines devised expressly for this establishment, each of which works true to exactness, turning out each so as to be an accurate fit in any one of a thousand watches. Absolute precision of time is ntar.y attained by these watches, as the inevitable result of their simplicity and exactness of structure.

The case of their repair is obvious as the makers have always on hand, for sale the different parts of the watch perfectly finished, to repair damages. Besides the watch heretofore offered to the trade, we are now making a second quality, inferior to the first only in having less finish in immaterial parts and a lighter case. This we offer at a price so moderate, as to be within the means of every class and we recommend it as Bound and reliable, and greatly superior to imported watches of equal price. Tne trade are cautioned against English and Swiss imi tations with which the conntry is flooded. Each of our best Watches is engraved on the plate, Appleton, Thacy Waffliam, and is accompanied with a certificate of genuineness and perpetual warranty, over our own signature.

We refit with new Enamel Diale, of beautiful quality, watches of all kinds, the dials to which may have been broken. Orders maybe addressed to us direct, or to any of the undermentioned firms, who are agents for the sale of our Messrs. COOPER A FELLOWS, No. II, Maiden Lane, NT. FELLOWS A No.

Has stood the test of over ten years experience, and is recommended by all the most eminent physicians as the most valuable remedy in use. Dr. Williams, the celebrated Physician of the London Consumption Hospital, took notes of its effect in about 500 cases, and found it more efficacious than all remedies yet discovered. 0's4160 S5c Sec Illinois 5 dis Mobile par: State Bank I dis. Central 2 Commercial Bank 2 dis. Wednesday Morning, May 12. 1858. Burglary.

A successful burglary was commit-t on ifonday night at the Boot Shoe Store of B. R. Cciter, corner of Broad and College streets. The burglar entered by a door opening upon a narrow alley in the rear of the store, the mouth of which is hidden by a high gate, which might have been open, or if closed, easily scaled. 3 uuui "aa a vuiv uue, viae luvtvCU on the inside, and fastened by a strong iron bar, passing from the top diagonally to the bottom.

The burglar had evidently examined the from the inside before attempting his work, lie commenced by burii.g holes in the door with an augur. Having made an aperture near the lock sufficiently large to insert his hand, he turned the key. Lie then unbolted the bar by the same means, and entered the house. Proceeding to the desk he ransacked the drawers, found the key of the safe, and abstracted $12o in specie, 15 in cur rent bank notes, and $180 in notes of the Bank of Tazewell. Of the specie $100 belonged to a young gentleman from Wilson county, who was sleeping up stairs with the clerks The noise produced by the wind and rain no doubt prevented the young men from overhearing the burglar.

He was very deliberate, apparently, in his operations. Having concluded his examination he locked the safe and put the key in his pocket, and locking the door on the outside, he pocketed that key also, and left. No clue bas been obtained to his identity. The notes on the Bank of Tazewell were deposited with Mr. Cutter for safe keeping.

gy The New Orleans Opera Troupe left last night at the close of the performance on the Sallie West for Cincinnati. Hurricane. During the violent rain storm which visited our city on Monday evening, a severe hurricane passed over portions of the country in our immediate vicinity doing considerable damage. The hail fell in torrents, and in the neighborhood of the residence of the late Matthew Barrow fences were razed and trees uprooted in terrible confusion. POLICE COURT.

"Curst forever be those joggling fiends, Who palter with us in a double seuse; Who keep the word of promise to the ear, And break ii to the hope." The popular impression that the distinguished author of the above text had just recovered from a big drunk when he penned it is no doubt well founded. As to its correctness, we are not here to discuss that. The attendance on the outside of the bar of the venerable Recorder's Court yesterday morning, was unusually multitudinous. Under the impression that Monday morning would bring a large haul in the way of delinquents, the curious congregated to gaze on the unfortunate some to jeer at their misfortunes, and some to go their security. But the array was not as brilliant as might have been anti-" cipated.

Among the most conspicuous cases was Permelia Street, a dowager queen in the jungles, who was up on two distinct charges of rebellion. The first consisted in a personal difficulty in which she had been engaged with one Mary Meredith, upon whose feminine developments the enraged Parmelia poured out the flood of her pugilistic indignation after the most scientific and approved style. For this demonstration ten days were allotted her for repentance and laborious duties. The second charge was that, in her great wrath, she swore profanely to exterminate the whole Meredith family, and in pursuance of her pledge, had showered upon the unoffending doraicil that covered the devoted heads of the Merediths afforesaid an avalanche of rocks, which made the shingles leap in agony and the weatherboarding rattle with terror. The.

dowager had ten additional days added for this exploit, which made twenty, and down among the pebble breakers went the discomfitted Permelia. Lewis, a slave, was arrested for throwing rocks. It appears that Lewis had a misunderstanding with white boy, and undertook to settle it by getting up a geological correspondence. One of Lewis' missiles struck the mother of the boy, accidentally, and inflicted a severe wound on her head. Lewis fled, was pursued, and arrested, and the Court condemned him to receive twenty-nine cuticular irritants, and his master was required to pay costs.

A couple of young men were brought up on a charge of indulging in pugilistic amusements on the Sabbath, and what was worse, inside the yard of Ely-sian Grove Church, during service. Such an outrage upon all decency deserves the severest reprimand, and the parents of these lads should learn them a lesson of which they evidently stand very much in need. The Court assessed a fine upon each. Marcus Nickens, an altitudinous specimen of the genus homo, was found measuring about sev enhori-zontal feet in the Market House, and sound asleep, as sound as slumbered Adam when He laid him down and slept-and from his side A woman in her magic beauty rose; Daisied and charmed he called that woman bride, And his first sleep became his last repose. Marcus was awakened by a dig in the ribs, too, but it came from a policeman's club, and he got up without loosing any of his animal economy.

The Court sent Marcus down to wield his stalwart arm for seven days among the dornicks. Mr. Napier encamped on the lower wharf, and foolishly imagined he was on the plains, and'mon-arch of all he surveyed. He got drunk incontinently, defied the authorities audaciously, and fired off his gun menacingly. He was arrested speedily, and taken before the Recorder triumphantly, who required him to liquidate $6 instantly, which he did reluctantly.

A young man who officiates behind a counter where tangle-foot is sold, became the victim of an entangling alliance with a female woman on Water street, und made himself obnoxious to the law in two instances. He was brought up to answer, and not having.witnesses to clear him, he submitted to a fine of $7 in each of the two cases made out against him. The above report was unavoidably crowded out of our Tuesday's issue. Trust Sale of an Iron Foundry.
