A Leading Citizrii re Ar For WILKINS TANNEHILL. mentioned in Bill Holder's story on page 10 about the centenary of Nashville Ccmmandery No. 1, Knights Templar, was not only the first commander of the order but one of Nashville's most distinguished early citizens and the ancestor of members of a number of prominent families. He made his appearance in Nashville by opening a warehouse for -the sale cf salt from the vats operated by relatives in Illinois; within a few years he was interested in other commercial ventures in the city and later became an editor, publisher and bookseller.

Among his contributions to Masonry was the writing, in 1824, of Tannehill Masonic Manual, which for a "half century was the textbook of Masons of this section. He served as mayor of Nashville, and a street bears his name. Befler Pari of Valor NOT long ago when we heard that bees had swarmed in the dome of the courthouse at Lawrenceburg we thought they might make an interesting story, since the swarming came at the time when the courthouse was the scene of a trial which was attracting much attention. We asked our correspondent to take a photographer and investigate, but when the photographer mounted the roof cf the courthouse and made ready to try for a picture of the intruders he discovered that they were not bees but yellow' jackets. He beat a retreat and left the dome- to their undisputed possession.

Crj From New England LOUISE DAVIS' story about Nashville's Egyptian architecture in the June 30 issue bf the Magazine has attracted the attention of an architecture student at Yale University, who is making a study of Greek Revival buildings and Egyptian Revival structures which were contemporary with them. He says that Yale does not possess any information about Tennessee architecture of that period and that he 'finds our story and John Lain Malone's pictures of the First Presbyterian Church and the monument at the grave of Major E. C. Lewis invaluable.
