The necessity for a distinctive name to identify the new company led to the choice ot a name' derived from Iliac of the partnership ot pioneer electrical days.

This is peculiarly appropriate since the new company is carrying on the business of Gray and Barton as it would have developed had not the invention of the telephone changed its course. The Graybar Electric Company is at once the" successor and the predecessor of tbe Western Electric Company, for under its modified name it carries on the oldest electrical business continuously in existence.
