He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Martha Rebman; their daughter, Renee and son-in-law Durand Wagner of Arizona. He volunteered his life to his country serving in the US Air Force in both World War II (receiving Bravery medals during his post in Okinawa) and the Korean War. He was a dedicated science professor having taught in Birmingham, AL, Fletcher, NC and retired in Nashville, TN (Two Rivers High School, Rose Park and Meggs). His love centered around his home and church. He was a member of the Boulevard SDA Church for 35 years and if the doors were open, he was sure to be there.

He and his wife loved to travel enjoying a number of cruises and eventually visiting all 7 continents plus the Arctic. He lived in Nashville for 42 years, but recently returned to central Alabama. He leaves to mourn a host of relatives and friend who share his anticipation for that special Reunion Day when God has promised to wipe away all of our tears. After graduating Magna cum laude from Vanderbilt in 1973, he spent his early engineering career as a programmer and analyst in the Pulmonary Division of the Department of physiology and Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galvestion, Texas. He returned to Vanderbilt University in 1985 to further his research interests, completed his PhD in Biomedical Engineering at Vanderbilt University in 1988 and continued his career in the Department of Radiology and Radiological Sciences at Vanderbilt University until 2015. At the Medical Center he was a dedicated researcher and teacher, as well as a loyal friend and colleague, always available to encourage and support the work of others.

In the early years, his research contributed to the development of now common clinical procedures including X-ray mammography and Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy. In more recent years, his work was devoted to the development of new quantitative tools for understanding brain growth and development in pediatric patients. Subsequent to this work, Dr. Riddle directed his efforts toward extending these same techniques to provide physicians with a tool that could monitor the progression of degenerative brain diseases such as Alzheimer's and Multiple Sclerosis. He will be remembered as a gentleman and a scholar by all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be sent in his name to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or Faces of HNC, a 501(c)(3) Dr. Riddle was instrumental in founding. The family wishes to especially thank Dr. Harold Moses, the Multiple Sclerosis Clinic at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Stallworth Rehabilitation Hospital staff, and his home helpers Belinda Crabtree, Kurt Kirton, and Ramone. ssg3 School and the United States Armed Forces Institute.

A U.S. Navy veteran, he served 9 years as a Hard Hat Deep Sea Diver serving during WWII and the Korean War. He co-founded and co-lead "The Franklin Fellowship" that has met at the home of Darrell and Stevie Waltrip for over 34 years. Leonard was a co-founding member and Elder of Immanuel Church Nashville, and led a church service at the Nashville Flea Market for over 20 years. At the age of 83 he began writing and authored four books, Franklin, Tennessee: The Jewel of the Harpeth.

Leonard served on the board of many companies. Leonard was preceded in death by parents, Harry Perkins and Lillie Mae Timmons Isaacs; infant son, David Leonard Isaacs and sister, Martha Ann Isaacs. He leaves behind his wife of 60 years, Ann Isaacs; children, Dale (Janet) Isaacs, Alan (Lynn) Isaacs, and Lea Ann (Rusty) Owens; seven grandchildren and hundreds of friends. He led a full, fun and remarkable life! Funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home, Ray Ortlund, Jr. and Hal Hadden officiating.

Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park. Family Friends will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the men of the Franklin Fellowship. Memorials may be made to Compass World Outreach FBO Feed Franklin First. Visitation will be 4-7PM Monday at Williamson Memorial Funeral Home.
