EAST West Davidson For the Record But TDOT official says funding, schedule not yet approved By LINDA BRYANT StaffWriter WHITE BRIDGE ROAD Residents and owners of businesses near the Avenue interchange say the recent completion of a massive, three-year, $43 million road construction project has eased traffic and helped business in the area. But some say stunned that the second phase of the project been scheduled, because they expected it would come soon after the first phase was completed. two has not been funded and has been assigned no schedule at this said Kim Keelor, spokeswoman for the Tennessee Department of Transportation. Homes razed prematurely? Norma Hand, a former Metro Council member who has lived in West Nashville for more than 30 years, insisted that residents were told during the planning stages of the project that the second phase would start after the first phase was finished.

The project included adding ramps at the interchange of I-40 and Briley Parkway. Other improvements included the reconstruction of one mile of Briley Parkway, the addition of new turn lanes at the Robertson Parkway intersection and the construction of two flyover ramps. Two miles of Interstate 40 between White Bridge Road and I-440 were widened from three lanes to four lanes, and the median was reconstructed for better drainage. The three-year project often looked like a scene from a Star Wars movie, said Kristen Dun- nelly-McBride, a resident of Sylvan Park.

The second phase is to add two more ramps one to take drivers from southbound Briley Parkway to westbound I-40 toward Memphis and one to help drivers navigate from eastbound I-40 to northbound Briley Parkway. Mixed reactions Tony Carletello, a Charlotte Park resident and real estate agent with ERA Pacesetter Partners, said pleased and concerned. it was always one really long traffic he said.
